The main aspect of being a Goldstar level player at Pokerstars is the 2:1 FPP multiplier. If you earned 1 FPP per hand as a Bronzestar member you will now earn 2 FPP for that same hand. You could play headsup vs a Bronze Star player for an hour and in the end you will have earned twice as many FPPs as him. You can now use 1,500 of those extra FPPs to satellite your way into the quarterly $1,000,000 VIP tournament. You can also buy a $300 VIP Reward Bonus which is no longer a regular bonus as it was in 2010. Now it is a cash credit that does not need to be cleared and you can be it and the others as often as you wish. During your first month as a Gold Star member Pokerstars will start offering you $50 Stellar Rewards instead of the $10 you were getting, each for only 1 FPP.
According to the Pokerstars FPP calculator it will take an average of 1-2 hours per day at the $1/2 level to maintain a Goldstar ranking. If you happen to play at two tables simultaneously like I do you can cut this down by 50%. Throw some sitngos and MTT's into the mix and it will be even easier.
